Kindness Company - Social Change Collective Team
ABOUT HARPREET KALSI-SMITH
Founder, Managing Director
Harp has spent more than 20 years working alongside First Nations, migrant, refugee, and conflict-affected communities at the intersection of trauma, culture, grief, and care. She founded Kindness Company to bring together two things she had rarely seen in the same place: genuine community self-determination, and deep, skilled support for the hardest moments of life.
Her practice integrates trauma-informed community development, complex project management, cultural capacity building, specialist research and evaluation, sound therapy, creative arts, and end of life care. She holds a rare dual lens: Leaning from Aboriginal ways of knowing, and her migrant and diaspora perspectives grounded in lived experience.
Harp has led or contributed to some of Australia's most significant community-led projects and specialist consultancies in this space, including:
• KBHAC End of Life Dillybag: end-to-end co-design of a comprehensive suite of end of life planning tools for Stolen Generations survivors
• The More I Talk The Stronger I Get (NCACSA): a complex community-led project addressing child sexual abuse in First Nations communities
• Coota Girls and Children of Bomaderry Justice Reinvestment Project: community engagement and project management in support of justice and legacy for Stolen Generations survivors
• Gold Coast Compassionate Community Model of Care: leading the development of a community-driven palliative and end of life care model outside of clinical settings
• Conversations That Carry Hope (ECCQ): co-design and delivery of a bicultural workforce training program for end of life and palliative care conversations with CALD communities
• Liver Foundation National Needs Assessment: specialist consultant and advisor on a national needs assessment with First Nations and multicultural communities, informing the development of a national telehealth service, with ongoing community and stakeholder engagement advisory
• NSW Cancer Plan Renewal: advisor on the renewal of the NSW Cancer Plan
• Carbon Creative: specialist researcher for over four years undertaking communication and campaign research, testing, and evaluation across state and national campaigns including the Territories Redress Scheme, Anti-Vaping Campaign, Smoking in Pregnancy, and the Australian Human Rights Commission rebrand
Alongside this project and consultancy work, Harp delivers ongoing shorter workshops on mental health and wellbeing, resilience building, kindness and compassion, and loss and grief for community organisations including Kalwun Senior Services, IWAA, and the Romero Centre.
She is a seasoned presenter and facilitator having presented at many national, state and local conferences and has delivered keynote presentations on trauma-informed end of life care for conflict-affected communities. She is a practitioner who has sat beside people as they die, and beside families as they grieve. That experience is the ground everything else is built on.
Harp holds a MA in Conflict Resolution, BA International Relations, BSSc Developmental Studies. She is a reiki master and integral sound healer. Holds a certificate in aged care and palliative care aromatherapy and trauma responsive somatic yoga certificate with Yoga for Human Kind and has completed the Maru Mali Program

'A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions,
and the roots spring up and make new trees.
The greatest work that kindness does to others is that
it makes them kind themselves.'

'My brother died two months ago. The last time I saw Harp I felt deep sadness. She told me about the deep rest sessions she runs and I had one today. I have been feeling so much anger and that lifted; my body feels different, better. I haven't felt like this for months'
— DONNA
'Words can't describe the scaredness of today.... your playing was next level. It truly gave me the strength to be strong and take my mind off what was actually happening. In my 10 years of nursing it's the most precious experience I've ever had.'
— HOPEWELL HOSPICE
“Harp's compassionate and professional guidance has given me acceptance, knowledge and strength as I face one of the most difficult challenges
