ABOUT ANNIE McGRATH

End of Life Support Services and Sound Healing

Annie shares her love of music and song with kindness and compassion. As a hospice nurse, Annie’s music brings comfort, empathy, and at times, joy to those at end of life and their families.

Music is beyond words. The connection, processing and relief that can occur through music and song has the power to transform a person’s experience. Sometimes it takes a piece of music to find its way into your heart, to free a person from the sorrow and pain in their life at that time. It brings them back to some normality and provides a long desired but short reprieve from the journey they are constantly contemplating, that is, their own death.

Families have expressed their appreciation of Annie’s caring nature, her gift of music, her warmth and her smile. Annie’s uncanny ability of producing the perfect piece of music or song, while singing and playing her guitar, the harp or piano brings much comfort to those around her.

At Hopewell Hospice on the Gold Coast, Annie had the privilege of caring for many residents at end of life, delivering exceptional palliative care. Annie has excellent clinical and communication skills.

As a qualified End of Life Doula and experienced hospice nurse, Annie provides immense support during all stages of the process. She will gladly help with whatever is required, whether it’s completing forms, providing support in coordinating services, attending appointments, guidance with navigating the health system or simply being a sounding board.

The services Annie offers include emotional support for your loved one and your family and assistance with keeping your loved one at home, if desired, both prior to and after the time of death.

As a funeral celebrant, Annie works with families to create a personal and fitting farewell, with kindness and compassion.

'A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions,
and the roots spring up and make new trees.
The greatest work that kindness does to others is that
it makes them kind themselves.'

'My brother died two months ago. The last time I saw Harp I felt deep sadness. She told me about the deep rest sessions she runs and I had one today. I have been feeling so much anger and that lifted; my body feels different, better. I haven't felt like this for months'

— DONNA

'Words can't describe the scaredness of today.... your playing was next level. It truly gave me the strength to be strong and take my mind off what was actually happening. In my 10 years of nursing it's the most precious experience I've ever had.'

— HOPEWELL HOSPICE

“Harp's compassionate and professional guidance has given me acceptance, knowledge and strength as I face one of the most difficult challenges
of my life.”

— JULIE

‘DEATH, DYING, AND GRIEVING TODAY HAVE BECOME UNBALANCED. Health care is now the context in which many encounter death, and as families and communities have been pushed to the margins, their familiarity and confidence in supporting death, dying, and grieving has diminished. Relationships and networks are being replaced by professionals and protocols.’
